Public transport

Amsterdam public transport isan excellent network consisting of metro, trams, buses and even train running 24/7.  You can order (multi)day tickets from the GVB website or simply use contactless payments to check in and out as you go. Google Maps is a reliable source of information about routes and departures.
The conference venue is best reachable by tram 7 stopping directly in front of the campus (tram stop Roeterstraat), or by tram 1 and 19 stopping nearby (tram stop Korte 's-Gravesandestr). Alternatively, use the metro: lines M51, M53 and M54 stop at Weesperplein, located only a 5-minute walk away from the conference venue. The journey from the Central Station (train) takes about 15 minutes and the airport is reachable in less than 45 minutes.

Lunch tips near the venue

Amsterdam is famous for its endless dining possibilities, but how do you choose from so many? Below we collected a few tips from our organizers:

  • Pita Chef. On the UvA premises, favored among students and staff, you won't make a mistake here.
  • Soupenzo. About 15 minutes from the venue. Hearty soups, salads and sometimes open sandwiches.
  • De Plantage or Burgermeester. Short walk from the venue. In case you fancy a proper sit-down restaurant.
  • Albert Heijn. Supermarket, walking distance from the venue, offers standard groceries as well as ready-to-eat meals.

Weather

The climate in Amsterdam is mild, but the weather can be fairly changeable. With the global temperatures rising, Amsterdam is no exception. You can expect temperatures from 25-30°C and occasional rainfall. The days during summer are also very long, with the sun rising before 5:30 and setting around 22:00. We recommend packing a rain jacket and a sleeping mask.

Tourism

With the long summer days and pleasant temperatures attracting visitors from all over the world, Amsterdam turns into a buzzing hot spot. While this often means more attractions and activities for the tourists, make sure you book the tickets in advance as the popular options often get sold out.
