Amsterdam Colloquium 2007: Workshop

Uninterpretability

A long-standing debate in syntax-semantics interface studies is the question whether some overt elements (inflectional morphemes, markers, pronouns) are semantically vacous or not. A good example is the discussion on whether n-words in negative concord languages are semantically negative or not, or whether bound pronouns receive their interpretation through some process of feature checking. Two invited speakers will propose their views on this controversial issue, and colleagues are invited to make a position statement.
